Create an environment

As a global admin, create execution environments that your teams use to run workflows. Business and Enterprise instances can define multiple custom environments.

You can create two types of environments:

  • Managed: Knime manages the executor, which runs in the Knime cloud.
  • Sovereign: You manage the executor, which runs in your own infrastructure. For setup instructions, see Sovereign execution.

Create and share an environment

To create an environment and share it with your teams:

  1. Go to the Global administration page and select Environments in the left menu.
  2. In the upper-right corner, click Create managed environment or Create sovereign environment.
  3. For both environment types, configure these settings:
    • Name and description: Identify the environment.
    • Database drivers:
    • Advanced settings: Block individual nodes in the environment and set the log level.
  4. Configure the settings for your environment type:
    • Managed environment: Select the runtime. Currently, only Latest stable release is available.
    • Sovereign environment: Select the purpose, either run and edit or run only. Each purpose comes with different data security settings. For details, see Data governance & security.
  5. Share the environment with specific teams. Team limits come from the execution credits assigned to each team, not from the environment.
