Updates and compatibility ​

Legacy JDBC driver features removed from standard installation ​

Before KNIME Analytics Platform 5.12, the standard installation included two sets of outdated JDBC drivers by default: drivers for the database framework retired in KNIME Analytics Platform 4.7, and older, no-longer-supported driver versions bundled inside the current database framework. Both sets are now removed from the standard installation and available only as separate, optional extensions:

  • KNIME Connectors for Common Databases (org.knime.features.dbdrivers) contains drivers for the database framework retired in KNIME Analytics Platform 4.7:

    • SQLite 3.8.11.2
    • PostgreSQL 9.4-1201-jdbc41
    • MySQL 5.1.49
    • jTDS (MS SQL Server) 1.3.1
    • Vertica

    This extension already existed and is now uncategorized instead of part of the standard installation.

  • KNIME Database Drivers (deprecated) (org.knime.features.database.deprecated) contains older, no-longer-supported driver versions for the current database framework:

    • SQLite 3.23.1 and 3.36.0.3
    • PostgreSQL 42.2.2 and 42.3.5
    • MySQL 5.1.49 and 8.0.11
    • H2 1.4.196 and 2.1.212
    • jTDS 1.3.1
    • MS Access (UCanAccess) 4.0.4

    This extension is new in 5.12.

The current, supported driver for each database continues to be installed by default, and includes the updated MySQL driver, now version 9.7.0. The previous default, MySQL 8.0.29, is now deprecated but remains installed by default.

Only workflows that use one of the driver versions listed above require action. Install the matching extension, or switch to a current driver version in the Connector node dialog by enabling Use latest driver version available.

Updating to KNIME Analytics Platform 5.12 ​

Updating an existing installation to 5.12 is only supported from KNIME 5.8, the previous Long-Term Support release.

Unsupported direct update from 5.9, 5.10, or 5.11

Updating to 5.12 directly from KNIME 5.9, 5.10, or 5.11 is not supported. Doing so may show an error message mentioning an "invalid registry" problem while the update is applied. The error is harmless but requires a manual restart of the application.

K-AI feature availability on Community Hub versus Business Hub ​

Some K-AI features introduced in KNIME Analytics Platform 5.11 and 5.12 require a newer AI service than the one bundled with KNIME Business Hub 1.18.x. Affected features include:

These features work when K-AI connects to KNIME Community Hub. They are not yet available when K-AI connects to KNIME Business Hub 1.18.x.
